Under the general direction of the Director and Chief Deputy Director, the Deputy Director of External Affairs and Community Outreach leads and manages the ongoing outreach and community partnership functions for the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). The Deputy Director has full responsibility for oversight and coordination of outreach initiatives within the separate divisions and functions of DIR. Initiatives include the California Workplace Outreach Project, which recently issued $25.3 million in grants to 89 organizations to help educate workers on their safety, rights, and benefits. This position also oversees the development and implementation of DIR’s public awareness and community engagement plans, including marketing, writing, graphics, translations, standards, internet and intranet sites, and social media campaigns and publications.
