Under the general direction of the Director of the Division of Workers’ Compensation, the Chief Counsel plans, organizes, and manages the work of the Legal Unit of the Division of Workers' Compensation. The Chief Counsel represents the Director on behalf of the Division, and serves as the Division’s top legal liaison to the Governor’s Office, the Legislature and its various committees, the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, the Department of Industrial Relations, and the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board.  The Division of Workers Compensation oversees over 600,000 worker compensation claims a year.
