The Committee on Revision of the Penal Code was established to study all aspects of criminal law and procedure and make recommendations that would simplify and rationalize criminal law. The Committee’s recommendations have the goals of improving public safety, reducing unnecessary incarceration, improving equity, and addressing racial disparities in the criminal legal system. The Committee bases its recommendations on feedback from a variety of public and private stakeholders, and are supported by legal analysis, empirical research, and data provided by public entities.
