Description

The mission of the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board is to develop and enforce objectives and implementation plans which protect the beneficial uses of the State's waters. The board makes water decisions that include setting standards, issuing waste discharge requirements, determining compliance with those requirements, and taking appropriate enforcement actions. Activities that the board regulate and enforce are aquatic pesticides, biosolids, groundwater pollution, dredge and fill, stormwater runoff, irrigated agriculture, construction runoff, septic tanks, sanitary sewer systems, underground tanks, timber harvesting, landfills, mines, and discharges to rivers, lakes, bays, and the ocean. The board provides financial assistance for construction of wastewater treatment plants, clean beaches, agricultural discharge monitoring and reduction, water recycling, stormwater control measures, repair and replacement of underground storage tanks, and watershed management efforts.
