Description
The Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) is a quasi-judicial administrative agency that administers and enforces public sector labor relations statutes, ensuring their consistent application and adjudicating disputes between employers and employee organizations. PERB handles unfair labor practice charges, mediates disputes, and administers representation elections for public employees who want to select a union to represent them in negotiations.
PERB's jurisdiction has grown significantly over the years. It now administers eight collective bargaining statutes, which covers approximately 2.7 million public-sector employees across the state. These employees work for various public entities, including California's public schools, colleges, universities, state government, and local public agencies like cities, counties, and special districts.
