The Commission provides for the health, inspiration and education of the people of California by helping preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation.  The Commission provides advice to the Governor, the Legislature and the Department of Parks and Recreation on policies, projects, and other matters pertaining to parks, recreation and public access affecting the state park system.
