The Deputy Secretary for Law Enforcement and General Counsel oversees the legal and enforcement activities of the California Enviromental Protection Agency (CalEPA) and the boards, departments and office within the Agency. The Deputy Secretary reviews enforcement programs within CalEPA Boards, Offices, and Departments and recommends strategies and approaches to improve enforcement as well to better inform the public of the Agency’s enforcement policies. The Deputy additionally coordinates multi agency legal actions; works with the Attorney General’s Office; engages with federal, state and local legal and enforcement officials to ensure coordination and cooperation; gathers information on legal cases and disputes; researches legal citations, cases, and law; provides legal opinions; prepares reports and correspondence; attends meetings and conferences; represents the Secretary on legal affairs, and does other related work.
