Description

Formed in 1970, the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) is an agency in the Executive Branch with the purpose of serving as California’s standards board for educator preparation for the public schools of California. The CTC is responsible for the licensing and credentialing of professional educators in the State, the enforcement of professional practices of educators, and the discipline of credential holders in the State of California. The CTC issues at least eight different types of credentials, processes roughly 330,000 new and renewal applications and issues 850 mandatory and discretionary actions in a year. The CTC also has the authority to accredit institutions and approve all programs that lead to a credential to serve as an educator in California's public schools.  There are currently 252 Commission-approved educator preparation programs.
