The State Mining and Geology Board represents the State's interest in the development, utilization and conservation of mineral resources, reclamation of mined lands, and development of geologic and seismic hazard information. The board determines general policies for the Mining and Geology Division within the Department of Conservation and maintains the State’s surface mining and reclamation policy. The Board also represents the state’s interest in the development of geological information necessary to understanding and utilizing the state’s terrain, and seismological and geological information pertaining to earthquake and other geological hazards.
