Under administrative direction of the Director, the Deputy Director and Chief Counsel exercises legal and management judgment to resolve the most complex, high profile and/or politically sensitive matters and provides legal advice to the department and other state agencies to remain in compliance with state and federal law, state policy, and other legal requirements. The Deputy Director and Chief Counsel advises executive and management staff on the most complex, high profile and/or politically sensitive matters. They will collaborate with the Attorney General’s Office and third-party legal counsel when the Department is involved.
